«Riccardo Nannini X Paolo Pilotti»
About
Riccardo Nannini, also known as Cane, begins his work from the moment when something ordinary starts to feel slightly “off.” Familiar symbols, characters, and everyday scenes are pulled apart and recomposed into sharp, punk-inflected visual narratives charged with irony and tension.
His paintings unfold with a strong sense of storytelling.
Figures seem to perform within theatrical, sometimes chaotic environments, and the density of details encourages viewers to move across the surface as if reading a graphic novel panel by panel. Humor and discomfort coexist, creating a subtle but persistent sense of unease.
Paolo Pilotti’s work begins with seduction. Bold colors, luminous surfaces, and embroidered fabrics create an immediate visual attraction. His paintings often appear luxurious and tactile-almost theatrical in their intensity-inviting viewers to come closer, even to imagine touching them.
Yet the longer one looks, the more this glamour reveals itself as a strategy. Pilotti builds his compositions upon the structural foundations of Renaissance figuration, referencing classical balance and sacred iconography.
Within these refined frameworks, however, he inserts contemporary symbols: exaggerated lips, tattoos, dyed hair, brand references, and markers of cosmetic enhancement.
