About

The “monsters” created by Shoko Mihira originate from personal experiences, world events, and people encountered in life, each transformed through her perspective into tangible forms. Rooted in real-life experiences, the works evoke a strong sense of familiarity—“this really happened”—with each piece carrying its own narrative.

Before focusing on her artistic practice, Mihira spent over a decade immersed in BMX street culture, which continues to inform her work. She creates her pieces using flame working, a technique learned from her mentor Zii, working primarily with durable borosilicate glass suitable for long-term display and collection.
